Only the purest pigments are used in combination with premium raw materials. The base is usually linseed oil, but some pigments use other types of oil (sunflower, etc.) in combination with the damask resin that makes these oil paints so unique. The main function of the resin is that it allows the paint to dry from the inside, not just from the top layer as is the case with conventional of the colors.
